Update

I'm posting a second time today with an update.

Good news!  Just as I was preparing to begin scanning more photos,  a different looking package down the row caught my eye.  Luckily, I don't fuss about staying rigidly on task and never jumping ahead if something looks interesting and...Eureka!  I found another package of photos from 1996! It was mixed in with some 1997 photos and in a different kind of package.

I am now feeling hopeful that some of the rest of 1996 is also mixed in with 1997 or 1998.  It's quite possible because there are just two or three package styes for that entire period and most are not marked on the outside. I may have poked some 1996 packages incorrectly in the midst of one of the other years. This was, to all outward appearances, the bin with the organized photos.

You know, a person could seriously topple headfirst into a photo cache this large and disorganized  and never be heard from again.

Of course, this means more browsing and less scanning again for awhile.  But I really feel that keeping to some sort of chronological order is the best idea.  Besides, these photos are irresistible, whereas scanning is boring.

  1. Phew - glad to hear you found the missing ones from '96. I hope the others are to follow.

My parents did a huge cleaning one year when I was in high school, and accidentally threw away all of our many childhood pictures. It was so horribly sad...

  2. OMGs Karen! That is nearly a catastrophe! I'm so sorry. :( I hope there were a few tucked away somewhere--in frames/albums and such. Hey! Ask relatives! Maybe they have some!
